I think that's great for students, giving them a more seamless path to getting certified.

Many of the most successful CompTIA instructors on Udemy are CompTIA partners, offering exam vouchers on their websites and in their bonus lectures. Udemy will have to figure out how to minimize potential student confusion/uncertainty when determining where to buy their exam voucher.

@GenefaMurph976, has your marketing team considered adding referral link affiliate income for instructors referring students to purchase exam vouchers directly from Udemy instead of from CompTIA or their websites via promotional announcements, bonus lectures, etc? I see something like this as a win-win for both Udemy and CompTIA course instructors.

It would be even more impactful if such promotional offers were displayed prominently on the relevant course landing pages, as well as during moments when students are actively engaging with course content.

That said, since this offer is applied uniformly across all courses covering these topics, it may not serve as a competitive advantage among Udemy instructors individually.

However, from Udemy’s perspective, the "Buy a course and get 10% off" offer is a strong competitive differentiator. To maximize its effectiveness, it should be clearly highlighted on course landing pages and other key touchpoints where students are exploring or learning about these topics.

Not sure what to say to this.

I do not have CompTIA courses, I know many instructors sell these.
I can only assume Udemy will cut deeply into those instructors revenue competing with them directly.

The trend is a little unsettling.

Really awesome development from Udemy. I constantly emphasize to my students that certifications aren't just pieces of paper, they're gateways to career growth. It's great to see Udemy helping them out.

Is there a plan to do the same for certifications from other vendors, such as Microsoft and Cisco, and others?

There is no profit in Microsoft vouchers. Microsoft only offers a 6% discount to wholesalers which goes to zero when credit card fees and expired vouchers/customer support is added.

You don’t as an instructor. If you want to sell vouchers to your students on your website, you need to become a CompTIA official training partner and buy the discounted vouchers through them. (My company has done this for years, and now Udemy is too).

I doubt they would create affiliate referral on vouchers because the margin for Udemy isn’t high.

I sell vouchers in my website for CompTIA and have since 2019, and I have been the top seller of CompTIA vouchers in the world since 2020. I can tell you, there isn’t a lot of margin for resellers and by giving the students a 10% discount (as CompTIA and my company does), there isn’t much left to pay affiliates.

You are right, there will not be any benefit to individual instructors because the vouchers are sold across all instructors based on the certification.

This is a benefit to the students, but does create a more holistic experience for the students which can help them come back to Udemy time and time again.

While this is true, maybe Udemy (being a larger company) might be able to negotiate a bigger discount to make it a viable business model.

I know my company looked into it, and we had come up with a business model that would have supported it if we started teaching Azure courses ;)

Thanks @Salman Alhiary as Scott and Jason indicate each vendor is different but we have used CompTIA as a model that we hope to be able to replicate with others. As @DanMill428 indicates, our goal is to as I call it "go beyond the course" and deliver a full learning experience that delivers a tangiable outcome for the learner that they can use to further their learning and their career/prospects.

That's unfortunate. I can definitely foresee a bit of tug-of-war when it comes to both instructors and Udemy selling exam vouchers. There's no incentive for instructors to stop promoting vouchers on their sites, like yours. Currently, I also see Udemy being at a disadvantage to established CompTIA partners like you, since you also offer the free retake option, CompTIA labs, and bundles, which Udemy doesn't.
