Tipalti was indeed introduced in February. The recent update is that USD Wire Transfer has now been added as a new payment method, allowing eligible instructors to receive your earnings directly in USD via wire transfer.

So, with this, would I receive in USD in my account without paying the FX fees (2.5% + 3.5 USD) and instead I would just pay a flat fee of 14 USD?

Is this correct?

I felt that the Help Center article was not very clear on this. It would be great to have some clarification on this and how to best take advantage of this

@RyanJaress Thanks for the update, but both your post and the help page are very unspecific. So are Tipalti's help pages.

Please provide some concrete examples for various countries, so that instructors can understand the benefits (if there are any).

For example, in Europe, does the account need to be an IBAN with USD or something else? Does it work with Wise or Revolut? Which fees are still involved?

As previously mentioned your 'help centre' doesn't explain how it's any different for UK instructors compared to the Tipalti launch months ago, what the fees are etc. etc. It would be useful if you can actually publish some detail behind this. If it means that as a UK instructor I can now get paid directly to a UK bank account in GBP with reduced fees then great .. but I need more information. Thanks

I couldn't find information on SWIFT costs on Tipalti. There are only blog posts about SWIFT payments in general.

I don't want to switch to Tipalti unless I am certain of the costs incurred by Tipalti and compare them with those of Payoneer. The SWIFT payments also incur costs on the receiving end and sometimes, by the correspondents in the middle.

One key benefit of wire transfers through Tipalti is that they allow instructors to receive payouts in different currencies if their bank supports it. For example, if you want a payout in USD but your bank is in Turkey, it can now be processed via wire transfer (provided you have a USD account at your Turkish bank). Previously, payouts were processed in your local currency by default through global ACH (Global ACH is another payment method that usually delivers funds in your local currency).

We introduced this payment option based on instructor feedback requesting more flexibility. The rollout followed our standard process for new features and was tested with instructors from multiple countries. While we can’t share internal assessment details, we’re committed to providing options that better suit different instructors’ situations.

It’s important to note that payment processing costs can vary depending on currencies, banks, and individual circumstances. SWIFT and international transfer fees, for example, can differ based on your bank, location, and transfer amount. We recommend checking Tipalti’s current fee schedule and confirming with your bank about any receiving fees. Because costs are highly individual, it’s best to calculate the total fees for your specific situation rather than relying on general comparisons.

I would like to share an update from the instructor's perspective. Just for context, I am based in Germany, but I think the situation below applies to other countries in Europe as well.

I've selected the new option Wire transfer using Tipalti and provided by bank details: IBAN, BIC, Bank Name, etc …

One important note: your bank account (IBAN) needs to be in the same country as your residence. In my case, since I am based in Germany, the bank account provided needed to start with DE…

From a European perspective, this probably falls into the category of IBAN discrimination - but this is a separate discussion.

The total fee paid was USD 14.00, which is excellent. Well done, Udemy! Well done 👏

Thanks for sharing! Unfortunately Revolut only supports local IBANs for a few select countries. I suppose it's either a mistake that Germany is not on the list, or it's being rolled out. Regardless, for a lot of countries I presume this is not an option.

I have also a similar question.

If my bank is in US but I am not located in US. However my bank accept ACH and wire transfers both. Then will it be okay to enter those details for either ACH or wire transfers.

Hi @MarinaT When I enter my address, the currency is fixed to Euros. What is the best payout option to choose for receiving my Udemy earnings? Does a SEPA (EUR) transfer automatically mean the payment comes in euros? The wire transfer option shows Euro automatically too so I cannot choose. Is there a way to receive payment in USD instead in Tipalti? And where can I see which foreign-currency options (and conversion/FX fees) are available to me?

This is one of the great benefits of attending the Instructor Partner event in San Francisco! The changes to Tipalti had completely passed me by. It wasn't until I spoke to a number of instructors that I realised that I can now be paid in USD rather than GBP via Tiplati.

This not only saves me money in fees but means that I am not hit by the exchange rates at the time of payment. I can now choose to make the transfer when the rates are more favourable.

@DiogoAlvesd487 and @ValentinDespa How exactly did you manage to accomplish those low fees? For the latest payout I leveraged Tipalti with a transfer to my local german business bank account in USD. The Tipalti confirmation states 8$ for transaction fees but there were additional fees of roughly 3% that are not displayed anywhere.

To make it more precise: Assuming I got 10k as a payout from Udemy:

Tipalti deducted 8$
The exchange rate between USD and EUR led to another 1,5k$ reduction
However, on top of those deductions, 300$ seem missing. They are not mentioned anywhere.

What am I missing here? Its still cheaper than Paypal, but overall I expected to only pay 8$ for Tipalti and deduct the exchange rate. The additional 300$ fees are not clear or transparent to me. However, I am sure its not my bank causing them as incoming international transfers are free for my business bank account.

Any ideas?

I have paid only a $14 fee.

The idea is to receive USD directly into your USD bank account. The exchange rate that your bank uses is a different discussion. That has nothing to do with Tipalti or Udemy.

Make sure to select Wire transfer with USD as a payment currency, not Local Bank Transfer / SEPA.

So if Udemy pays you $10,000 via Tipalti wire transfer, you should see in your German USD account $9,986.

In My case (Spain) I have select Wire Transfer with USD currency.

The destination account is with a bank called Revolut, which allows me to have an account in USD and euros.

I don't know if this bank is in your country, I think that it is in many European countries, but I'm sure there are other bakns that allow this option.

I can confirm that Tipalti only charged me $14 in commission, and the rest went into my Revolut account.

And since that bank doesn't charge a commission for currency exchange, I save the 3 or 4% that PayPal used to charge me. In my case, many,many dollars at the end of the year.

Actually, Revolut has payment plans depending on the amount of dollars you want to convert monthly, but in my case, the amount is very small (9 euros) and I save a lot of money.

In my case, Spain.

If you link Tipalti to a bank account that accepts USD, like Revolut, it only costs you 14 euros in fees.

Why Revolut? Because they don't charge any fees when converting from USD to Euro. I have not found another bank with better conditions, but there may be others in your country.

Example in this month.

Tipalti: 14$ but In Revolut a conversion rate of 0,85XXX
Paypal: a conversion rate of 0,81XXX

About 3 cents by dollar. If your income is 1000 dollars—> yo get 30 euros more that with paypal.

If your income is 10.000 — > 300

And 300 monthly in a year —> 3.600

I don't know if there's a cheaper way with Paypal, but at least I don't know of one.

According to my calculations, if you earn less than $350 a month, PayPal is preferable. Above that, Tipalti is preferable.
Please, if anyone sees any errors in the calculations, please point them out, just in case I'm mistaken :-(

Since wise also offers USD accounts to their clients.

Does revolut asks for payment proof for receiving money. I have doubts in that. Anybody please help me on this one.

I don't have revolut. But I do have wise.

Also wise support direct/ACH deposits so that way the fees is 0.3 USD.

I'm not a financial expert and can only share my own experience. I may be mistaken, and it would be a good idea to check with your banks to confirm. I've never worked with Wise.
At least in my country, I believe Wise charges a small fee for currency conversion, while Revolut doesn't (or has cheaper plans for large amounts of money).
On the other hand, if by "payment proof" you mean whether the bank asks for proof of where the income comes from, in my country (Spain) it's required by law. I have to present proof of payments from Udemy because the Tax Agency requires it.

I'm wondering if, in the Udemy/Tipalti settings, you provided also the optional information about the intermediary bank (it should be CHASGB2L ). I'm worried because intermediary banks are those that could be responsible for the additional transactions fee.

What did you do?

I did not provide the correspondent bank BIC, which for me is CHASGB2L. I just used the Revolut BIC, starting with REVO… Best of luck!

@ValentinDespa thanks for taking the time to reply. This was an error on my side - I opened a Revolut Business Account which does not support an IBAN starting with DE. Switched to the consumer version and it works exactly as you described.

Yes that is true. For small business Revolut also offers a Pro account which attached to the Personal account but still separate. That one offers a German IBAN.
