Presenting the Welcome Committee + Call for Volunteers

Hello Hello!

We have some exciting news to share! We’ll be launching a new Welcome forum. Whether you've been here for a while or you're a new member, this new forum will take you on a journey to our community. There are so many instructors in this community that we think it’s important to create a space for you to share a little more about who you are, get to know your fellow instructors, and learn about everything that our community has to offer.

We are also looking for volunteers to represent this official Welcome Committee! This is a great opportunity to take your instructor experience to another level and make an impact in the Udemy Community. To be part of it, you just need to:

  1.  Be a regular participant in the community. Regular does not necessarily mean daily, but that you participate multiple times a week/month on an ongoing basis.
  2.  Be interested in helping new instructors, making new connections, and sharing your knowledge.
  3.  Abide by the Community Guidelines and have a generally friendly approach with others.

As this is a voluntary position, you are not required to spend a set amount of time helping others; you can spend as much or as little time as you wish. Of course, we are offering perks for being part of our Welcome Committee group:

  • Enhanced access to the Udemy Community team
  • Occasional SWAG

If you're interested, please fill out this form and we will reach out to you with more information. Let's make this an even more vibrant and welcoming community together!

That's awesome! Bella, I would like to become a community champion in the future, so my question is... if I accept to be a volunteer, after can I apply to be community champion? And I have to do both things?

Another question: What is GWA

Thank you in advance

Hi @GuilhermeMP, so glad to hear that you're interested in getting involved with our community programs! 😊

If you decide to be a volunteer on the welcome committee, you would be more than welcome to apply to become a Community Champion in the future, that would be completely fine! You can exit the welcome committee if you'd like to only do one of them.

And SWAG refers to Udemy's branded merchandise, such as the T-shirt from our recent giveaway

Let me know if you have any other questions! 🙂

How is it different from Studio U?

So many things you can do with the community...

One thing that immediately comes to mind:  The Welcome Committee could ask each new instructor for the ONE single greatest challenge or unknown they currently face in course creation, then help them address it.  Could be anything from marketing concerns to video editing.  The challenges and solutions could be collected into an FAQ-type document that is regularly updated and distributed to new instructors.

One more idea:  A "Udemy Myth-Busters" document that debunks common misconceptions, many of which I had when I started.  From "Udemy does not allow you to market on any other platform" to "You only get 37% of any sales made on Udemy", to "Udemy prevents you from contacting your students individually", to "Your course better be perfect when you launch, because if you get a bad review, you'll never be able to recover", misinformation is rampant.

Just a few thoughts....

Great question @MalayaBiswal

The 'Welcome Committee'' will live within the Studio U board, as it's dedicated to new instructors joining the community. We will be retiring the current ''Introductions'' board and revamping this page to become more interactive. The purpose of this place is to share more than just our avatars and profiles.

We'll be having more discussions to try and understand the needs of new instructors better. We hope to provide a sense of belonging and engage them, along with our volunteers, into a new atmosphere that will motivate them to continue to pursue their goals of having a quality course and a successful journey teaching online.

Amazing ideas, @StanVangild204!

I appreciate your feedback on what you think would have been helpful when you first started. We'll discuss all of these points in more detail once the program is up and running. Thank you very much.😊

Hi @AbronomaMA22, thank you so much for your interest!

In this program, we look for volunteers who are Published Instructors (with at least 1 Udemy course published), and are already familiar with the platform. If you are currently developing your course, you can get helpful guidance and feedback from experienced instructors through the Welcome Committee once it's launched

If you have any questions about the platform or how to create your course in the meantime, feel free to post in the community and we'd be more than happy to help you! 😊
