GIMP & Canva are great, free photo manipulation / editing softwares.

I've also seen folks use Trello, Asana & Google Doc/Sheets for course management and outlining.

I also want to add these Udemy-specific resources, based on questions we see frequently in the community:

Official Udemy courses on how to create Udemy courses - https://www.udemy.com/user/udemymanager

Instructor revenue share - https://support.udemy.com/hc/en-us/articles/229605008-Instructor-Revenue-Share

I would add freepik.com for free photos, icons, vector designs, psd's and lots more. Also, flaticon.com for icons and icon packs.

For the photos, I would add unsplash.com and newoldstock https://nos.twnsnd.co/

And on https://www.slidescarnival.com/ you will findlots of great free power point templates.

Hi @JoyceWSolomon, it always depends on the site, sometimes you'll have to give credit to the author and sometimes you just can use it without credits. For the music, for example, if you use the music from Incompetech.com you'll have to give credit to the author, you'll find what to write right in the info of the song. About the photos, if you'll use the pictures from Pixabay.com, most of the time you will be free to use the photos also for commercial purposes without any credit, you will find about the license of the photo on the right of your screen.

Csnva can also be used for making PowerPoint slides too. There is so much that you can do with Canva. It's more than  just a photo editor.

Thanks so much for this one-stop-shop information. As a first-time course creator and trying to find answers on Udemy and their guidelines, this is so helpful. I really appreciate the additional tools to help set us up for success. This information should be in a top post GUIDELINE for First-time Course Creators.

Thanks once again.

@MassimilianoAlf @thanks for this list! It’s good to have it.

May i ask regarding the music and photos, are they royalty free music and photos for commercial use?

Its because, on Udemy we are selling so I want to ensure that instructors don’t get into trouble.

Thanks for your information on licences offered by the mentioned sites.

Another open resource that many might find helpful in editing photography is Darktable

darktable is an open source photography workflow application and raw developer. A virtual lighttable and darkroom for photographers. It manages your digital negatives in a database, lets you view them through a zoomable lighttable and enables you to develop raw images and enhance them.

It comes with a manual and you can download an app version to your phone or mobile device.

As you might expect, there are a ton of very good YouTube videos on how to use nearly every feature! It’s been compared to Adobe Lightroom and a number of other $$ applications available in that it has a ton of features, but it still takes time and practice to become comfortable with them.

I actually printed the online manual and have found that helpful as well.

I recommend you check out the YouTube videos before you get started.

Enjoy!
