Hello. I'm neither a citizen nor resident of the US, but I currently live in the US and work for a US-based company that sponsored my visa. I'm employed as W-2 and thinking about starting my own course on Udemy, but I'm concerned whether I'm legally allowed to work with Udemy while working for my company at the same time. Technically, that shouldn't be a problem, as I'm not a resident, but I would appreciate clarification. And if I am, then what tax form should I use? W-8ECI seems like an obvious answer, but I'm confused about "income that is, or is deemed to be, effectively connected with the conduct of a trade or business in the United States" part. My Udemy courses will not be connected to my current employment in any way. I understand that Udemy is not a tax consulting company, but I think with the number of instructors here, somebody must have faced the same question before. Thank you in advance.
