I like this. One of the things you gain by developing a course, writing a book, etc., is that it forces you (or should!) to do research, to think deeply about your topic, and to try to serve as a funnel for your students of all the relevant knowledge. You do research both to discover knowledge, but also to serve your students by relieving them of the work of researching everything available on a topic. Research is like exercise, it is often painful, tiresome, challenging, while it strengthens the muscle that can then be put to work in the development of your course.
