- Consult your accountant if needed to determine which TINs to use. The OECD provides some information about various countries' TIN arrangements: https://www.oecd.org/tax/automatic-exchange/crs-implementation-and-assistance/tax-identification-numbers/. - Your rate of withholding will depend on a number of factors, most importantly the countries where you and your students are based. For non-US instructors, the student's country will affect whether withholding is applied: - For sales to non-US students, that income won't be subject to any IRS withholding. - For US student sales, instructors will be subject to withholding tax at an applicable rate based on the information you provide us. Certain countries have entered tax treaties with the U.S. to agree to lower rates of withholding for their citizens. Instructors in those countries may provide information on the "Treaty claim statement" step of our online tax portal to reduce their rate of withholding. If the treaty claim on your submitted form is validated, your income from US student sales will be subject to withholding at the current treaty rates for copyright royalty payments for your country. You can check out the list of countries and their rates here: https://www.irs.gov/pub/irs-utl/Tax_Treaty_Table_1_2019_Feb.pdf. We can't tell you exactly what rate of withholding will apply to your Udemy earnings, but when we do begin automatically withholding, you'll be able to see the relevant amount in your revenue report.
