May’s theme was AV,  and we had a few discussions to cover best practices for instructors!

This post will cover the events and discussions we believe you will enjoy engaging in related to AV.

This month, we had a lot of engaging conversations that can help you strengthen your understanding of your recording setup while teaching online! Check out these subjects discussed in May:

What is the first upgrade you should make to your setup?- See what steps you can make to upgrade your recording setup

What do you use for your recording setup?- Share what you currently use to record your online content through Udemy.

What is the best way to reduce background noise while recording?- See how other instructors are working to reduce background noise while recording their online classes.

AV Coffee Chat:

On May 19, we invited you all to discuss AV as instructors! 

There were a lot of questions and discussions that could be helpful those who want to learn more about AV.

For those who were not able to attend, we have covered a few questions that we believe could be helpful for you. Check out what was asked in the coffee chat and some of the responses from our community members.

Question 1: What type of camera and microphone are you currently using to record your courses?

There were a few similarities between instructors utilizing certain cameras and microphones to record their content. Here are a few recommendations from instructors.

Cameras: 

• Microsoft HD Webcam
• Built-in webcam
• Cellphone

Microphones:

• Blue Yeti Snowball Microphone
• Blue Yeti Boom Microphone
• Built-in microphone in your laptop

Question 2: What programs are you currently using to improve the audio and visuals of your courses?

• Powerpoint - it may be a common tool, but it is a powerful one to present your content
• Clipchamp - Creates advanced clip art for your presentations to enhance the quality of your courses.
• Pixel Bay - Helps you find images and design ideas for your slides.
• Zoom - You can utilize this program to record your courses and it comes with various tools to have an interactive learning experience.

Question 3:What is one thing you can do to improve your AV setup to start?

• Improve your microphone setup to a stand-alone microphone such as a Blue Yeti. It’s important that the quality of your sound is improved to the learners can fully understand your lectures.
• Find yourself a good camera. Improving the overall quality of your lectures will give you a leg-up on the competition and will have the appearance of a highly produced course.
• Utilize ai tools to help improve the quality of your audio in post-production. One tool mentioned was Adobe Podcast.
