Hi Instructors! My name is Lili and I am your new Community Manager at Udemy! I will be taking the lead in developing the platform and programs that make the community a great place for instructors to connect with each other, and with Udemy.

Also, I would like to introduce the new Welcome & Announcement Category. Here you will find a new blog - Community News - where you can get the latest Udemy platform announcements, community news, user highlights, and more.

In the blog, you can subscribe to labels that interest you the most and receive the newest posts straight to your email inbox! To do this, click on a label in the right sidebar widget, for example: Platform Announcement. This will filter all the blog posts by this label. From there, you can click to subscribe to the label.

You can also visit the new Community Resources board to see information on how to use and navigate the Udemy Instructor Community. This is a great place for new members to learn how to get started in the community.

Again, I am so happy to be here as your new Community Manager, and I look forward to hearing from you all!

Hi Lili,

I think you are doing a great job. I have a query for you which you may be able to answer for me. I received a review of 1 star on one of my courses today. Never happened before. When I checked the reason, it states that when he opened a video, it was black. That is all. When I checked back on this student, he purchased in May. He has only completed 11%. I did reply and asked why he did not inform me of the problem and maybe I could have helped and to please contact me. It has pulled my ratings right down. Very annoying. What I would like to know is, Why are students allowed to submit a review before course completion? It cannot be objective as parts of the course have not yet been seen. I would appreciate your feedback and if it is possible to get this review removed?

I join Jeff in his request, not to let students rate the course until they finish at least 50% of it.

Hey @JeffSharman592, there are a number of factors a student can review in the first couple of minutes, such as the course's audio & video quality and an instructor's teaching style. To make this first impression great, we recommend providing a lot of value in the first 10-30 minutes of your course to hook your students and make them want to continue your course (and leave a good early review).

We also found that asking for reviews early on is really helpful for new courses because students are more likely to take a course with "social proof". If we didn't ask for reviews early on, it may take days, or even months, for someone to finish your course and leave a review.

If you feel you got an unfair review, please email policy@udemy.com. The team can take a closer look and potentially remove ratings that aren't about your course content. We also recommend providing a lot of value in the first 10-30 minutes so that students are hooked and want to continue watching your course (and leave a good early review).
