More detailed case-studies of breakthroughs experienced by Udemy instructors at all levels.

To make it manageable, maybe focus on one or two topics.  For example, if someone feels that they've cracked the social media code, I'd love to hear the thought process, what they tried and how it worked out.  Not just, "I used to use Facebook, but now I use YouTube", but specifically what they are posting and the thought processes behind it, along with both the positive and negative results of various approaches.

Instructors at ALL levels may have breakthrough experiences to share that could be beneficial and inspirational to others.  And the breakthroughs need not be just processes, they could be philosophies.  For example, "I used to just try to cram as much good information as possible into each course, but now my goal is to provide a single specific transformation that is in demand. This helps me focus on both my content development AND my marketing, and has improved my sales."

I know it's a lot to ask people to provide, but detailed case-studies seem to do well here and I know I'd love to see more of them, especially related to significant breakthroughs in their online course businesses.

Thanks for asking!

@StanVangild204 I love this idea and it's aligned with a community event we hope to start in the 2nd quarter! 🙂

Hi @ChrystieV  It would be great if you can have the feature to add Polls .

Polls can help alot to develop insights on what works and what doesnt for different people.

Also the advice which instructors get is very general and the situation varies alot depending on the categories.  For example the software development category, IT  is very matured on Udemy whereas something like Mechanical engineering is in its early stages .  So that new instructors and existing instructors can get useful advice depending on category .

Just a few thoughts,

Mufaddal

Hi @Mufaddal, these are very good suggestions! I can definitely see how implementing Polls would be beneficial to our forum.

I appreciate you sharing your thoughts and helping us shape the direction of our community. 😊

I'm not sure how I feel about this. I understand that this community is about helping other instructors, but I think it's reasonable to have limits on what you share.

This might be an unpopular opinion, but if I'm earning $100k/mo in a crowded field because I've "cracked Facebook ads" or "cracked YouTube ads", I'm not sure what benefit I get from sharing exactly what I did - especially if that breakthrough cost me $20k in ad spend to learn. Sure, I may feel good about helping others - but I'm also helping the 5 competitors of mine that frequent the forum.

I think asking instructors to share details is a bit more than should be expected..

I'm new to all this, but it's clear that there's a disconnect between our personal marketing and Udemy's marketing on our behalf.  For example, my course would be ideal for businesses with 100 plus employees.  It would be nice to know what Udemy is going to be doing to market my course to these firms.  It would be nice to know what firms employing 100+ people are on Udemy's subscriber list.  Understandably, Udemy actively markets its best-selling courses.  T hat's based solely on numbers.  If we knew what companies were on Udemy's subscriber list, we could augment their work with ours.  We would both benefit.
