I wanted to hop into the community today and pass along a product update for you! Over the last year, the product team was committed to providing you with the tools to make your day-to-day work more efficient so that you can focus more time on doing what you do best….creating course content.

What is the product update?

 

Also, I never heard of these features:

None, sorry. I don't mean to be negative, but those things just haven't had any effect for me. The personal plan might, but that's too early to say. The direct deposits for non US instructors would have a huge impact, as we are losing 2-3% of our revenue in payment fees. We have been waiting for a long time without any word on it, so I surely hope it's being worked on!

I definitely agree with below. It's not only the PayPal fee. The conversion rate is also too low impacting another 3-%.

Hi @CarlosDeLeon, apologies for the confusion. To clarify, this post is our update to showcase a list of the features that we have rolled out this year. We wanted to know how your experience with them has been. 🙂

 

Our Password Strength initiative prompted instructors to update their passwords to strengthen them and make them more secure. You can refer to this Help Center article for more information, this page also includes guidance for keeping an account secure.

 

The Labs & Assessments pilot was an experiment to calibrate the difficulty of the multiple-choice questions in the assessments. Students in certain certification courses were offered the ability to test their knowledge in specific topic areas with a multiple-choice skills assessment. After the assessments, they received results to help them determine where they need to improve within their current enrolled courses.

Hi @ba0708 and @askomdch, thank you for sharing your honest thoughts. Those observations are the ones that help us grow and improve.

 

We know that the Direct Deposit option is something international instructors are eager to have. At this time, we don't have a definitive timeline for when this feature will become available in other jurisdictions as offering international bank transfer comes with operational and legal complexities.

 

We'll make sure to notify our community once we have an update.

I'd love to finally see better mailing-features, like scheduled mails...

And more coupons, as well as 2FA.

Absolutely Opportunity Insights for me. We've gone from maintaining our existing courses to producing 3 new ones in parallel now, because we know there are better odds for those courses to gain traction.

 

Letting us shut off DM's and Q&A deflection efforts are a big deal as well; it's kept our operational costs under control.

 

I recognize the longer-term impact of marketplace maintenance and am happy about that too. Not having to manually transfer payouts from PayPal every month is also nice. But yeah, opportunity insights is what changed things the most here.

Thank you for the response, @Bella. I understand that there is legal stuff involved with international payouts. However, if anything, I'd imagine that it would be easier, since payouts would be to verified bank accounts and not just some online account where the money could essentially go anywhere. But I'll admit that I have zero clue. However, I do know that basically every freelance platform (Upwork, Fiverr, etc.) and other online course platforms support this. So it can't be that much of a hassle, especially given Udemy's size. If everyone else can do it (including companies that are significantly smaller than Udemy), it must come down to prioritization. I know Udemy focuses on growth, but this is really important to a lot of us as it eats a lot of our profits, and so I think it's about time this gets prioritized.

@Bella  are you showcasing those features or asking  which one was the most impactful lol?:)

  • Featured Questions - This one was an easy win. I can't say that it was extremely impactful but I know many of my students find it useful to find featured questions answered without having to dig through different lectures.
  • Direct Messaging -  I'm not sure what the feature here is. Are we talking about direct messaging between students and instructors? Didn't this feature exist since forever?
  • Direct Deposit for US -  I honestly completely missed it. Would you mind sharing the link about this? It would be nice to just get the payment to my bank account and not go through PayPal manually every month.
  • Personal Plan Pilot -  This one will probably have the biggest impact, but I haven't seen much impact yet.
  • Q&A Deflection measures -  I've never heard about this feature. what is it?
  • Opportunity insights -  Are you talking about market insights? Haven't we had those for  years already?
  • Password strength -   I wouldn't call this a feature. It's just nudging people to follow common-sense.  But it's definitely appreciated.
  • Labs & Assessments pilot -  Never heard of this one, I guess I wasn't part of the pilot.
  • Marketplace Maintenance program -  It didn't have any impact on me. By the completely support it.

    So in summary, sadly I either didn't feel a lot of impact from any of those, or didn't even hear about the features at all.
    Sorry @Bella . Maybe this isn't the feedback you wanted to hear but I'm just being honest.
    I think making the coupon generation better, so we don't have to waste time every month regenerating coupons and copy pasting them into every corse bonus lecture would be the biggest time saver.
