  2. What you teach,
  3. The most interesting thing you’ve learned from another instructor, and
  4. A fun fact about yourself!

You can share your video directly in this thread, or if you're not comfortable sharing a video of yourself, you can write out a response.

Hi! I'm Michaele Downey and I teach business and leadership skills to new and potential leaders. I have learned SO much from all of the instructors here at Udemy. I think the most important thing I've learned is to pump up the excitement when you're on camera. I'm pretty animated when I teach in person, and you have to give it TEN TIMES the excitement so it shows through when you're recording.

An interesting fact about me: My home office is dedicated to Harry Potter.

I can't get to video right now, but I will come back and show you when I can.

Hello everyone, I'm Patricia Caldeira, a Graphic Designer, and Illustrator that has been teaching online for a few years!

I mostly teach other people how to draw in a fun and relaxed way.

One of the most interesting things I learned from another instructor was from @ScottDuffy 's course on SEO. It really helped me get my courses ranking higher for my selected search terms.

Fun fact: I have a Tiger onesie that I love to wear all the time haha, if I'm not filming for an upcoming course, most of the times I'm wearing it. Maybe I should try filming with the onesie on for a change... Smiley Embarassed Smiley Very Happy

Hi, My name is Jerry Martin and I am a Vocal Coach, Recording Artist and Studio Engineer.  I am currently in the process of building my flagship Vocal Course.  From there, my plan is to build more courses the deep dive into certain issues that singers, speakers, and performers have.
So far I love the help I get from the Udemy Instructors and how they all want to help each of us succeed.  Thank you for that!  I learn from many different teachers and coaches on how to do things the right way and for that, I believe Udemy is awesome!

Hello and congrats to the team at Udemy for the new community! Like many others, I'm not able to create a video at the moment but I'll type out my responses.

My name is Dan, and I teach mostly productivity-related topics like Jira, Confluence and OneNote. The most interesting thing I've learned from another instructor is how to pretend like you're talking to someone on the other side of the computer screen. The great tip they offered was to put a photograph of a loved one on the monitor and explain things to them.

A fun fact about myself: In my spare time I host a podcast that celebrated its 1 millionth listen in 2018.

Hi Everyone,

I am Kelly and I am creating courses in Leadership and Professional Development. I have my own Leadership and PD company based in Perth, Western Australia.

To date I have liked reading that most instructors starting have the same fears as I did - filming yourself.. working out how to edit etc.... and I love the support from those that are "old hats"... they are right... it does get easier and it can also be funny watching back when you first start filming to where you progress to once you relax and be confident!

Fun Fact... while my company is based in Perth.. I am currently living in Cambodia managing a social responsibility e-learning project... as well as running my company remotely..

*also can't make a video at the moment as I am currently sitting at Denpasar airport at 4am waiting for a flight back to Perth after travelling from Siem Reap/Bangkok/Denpasar for a quick trip home to run a course!

Cheers,

Kelly

Hey, I'm Fabian - and still working on my first Udemy course; offline I teach a variety of soft skill (nonviolent communication, NLP, marketing, …) and IT topics (HTML, SEO, …). I am a trainer (teaching 1:x) and also a coach (supporting 1:1).

The most interesting thing I have learnt from other instructors is how many different approaches there are to any given topic – I really like the polyvocality :-).

Fun fact: I kind of live in a library :-D.

Ok Fabien ... you've got my attention! Tell us more about the kind of library you live in and post a picture...sounds like my kinda' place!

And welcome! Make yourself at home here at Udemy ... I think it will be your kinda' place too.

I am looking forward to interacting on this forum. I got my first 2 puppies in Dec and i leave work and go straight home to spend time with them and feed them myself...reminds me of what i used to do years ago rushing home to feed my newly born children.

Hello everyone! I'm working on my first course and totally nervous. I'm an former High School English teacher and College Writing Instructor, and I've taken time off to raise my kiddos. I now find myself in the homeschool community constantly talking about effective teaching strategies for one-on-one learning, so I'm hoping to create courses to help other parents navigate the teaching aspect of homeschooling. My first course is called Teaching Basics for Homeschooling Parents and it focuses on: skills vs. knowledge, the zone of proximal development, scaffolding and the process of I Do, We Do, You Do.

I'm still figuring out my video setup.

My name is Karen, and I am working on my first course: Cross-cultural Understanding.  It is a field that is new to Udemy, so I am excited.

I have worked and lived in quite a number of different cultures, so it is really wonderful to be able to share my knowledge widely and help others.

My name is Paul Omoloria Umane. I am the Founder, President and Coordinator-General of a non-profit, Cross of Calvary Foundation of Nigeria Inc. I have recently been approved as a Premium Instructor @ United Humanity Academy under the platform of Udemy, Inc. It comprises of two sections, namely Mideast Peace Recipe Part 1& 2 that is primarily built to meet the yearnings and aspirations of World Christian and Muslim Leaders that are genuinely interested in brokering Peace in the Middle East, the Gateway to global peace.

The two course sections are carefully designed and packaged to meet the requirements of the teaming population of students around the Globe that are seeking enrollment.

The most interesting thing I’ve learnt from another instructor is the fact that United Humanity Academy could be hosted by Udemy Inc where by DV I have become a Premium Instructor!

A fun fact about Umane Paul? Should I call it fun? Well, I don’t know.  Okay, if you must know, at the age of 13, I became a double orphan, having lost my dad at the age of 10 and my mum @ 13 years of age.

But today, through the special Grace of God I am who I am; I am married to a university graduate and my four children are all university graduates.

It accounts for why I set-up a non-profit, Cross of Calvary Foundation of Nigeria Inc that gives birth to United Humanity Academy to try and give back to my Fellow-humanity.

Hi all!

This is my first thread and I am glad to be part of the Udemy community. I have already submitted my course for the Udemy team to review. That first course is on international chess. Hopefully, everything is good. I have also started my first YouTube Chess channel recently on 4 Jan 2019. I am a Chemistry teacher and a Chemistry book author as well. I am intending to publish a lecture course series on Chemistry as well, apart from chess. We will see how things work out.

Not sure if I am allowed to post the links to my YouTube channel and Chemistry textbook link in this thread. I definitely would not want to get kicked out on my first day in Udemy.

Cheers,

David Tan
