Hello Instructor Community!

We are excited to bring you another live community event this month! On July 11th at 11:00 a.m. MT, we’ll be sitting down with @Alexia
, @Salil Dhawan
, and @KrystianWojtarowicz
in a webinar to discuss various aspects of being an online instructor! For a bit of context, here’s some more information on our guest speakers.

Alexia’s Background

Alexia has been teaching with Udemy since 2019 with a desire to help her students develop emotional intelligence through finding happiness and work-life balance. She was raised with a strong work ethic by Greek immigrant parents to the USA from Cyprus. Her pathway in life includes 30+ years of experience with well-being initiatives as a retired mental health therapist. She is also well-traveled and finds joy in conversing with people from diverse backgrounds. A fun fact about Alexia is her acumen to utilize non-verbal communication when there is a verbal language barrier. This has helped her connect and teach others to do the same. Feedback from students with continual improvement is a core value that has helped Alexia succeed as an instructor. Being with Udemy has afforded her the opportunity to expand her outreach and learn from world class instructors on the community platform.

His commitment to fostering a supportive learning environment stems from his own experiences of overcoming challenges in his business endeavors.

  • Hi there, I'm a Udemy course creator and I have a question about offering more resources to students.

How do instructors offer free and paid learning resources to Udemy students outside of Udemy's website without breaking policy? Specifically through content given to students in educational announcements.

There are so many avenues that can be offered to students that would improve their learning that Udemy's platform does not offer. For example: monthly newsletters, podcasts, live webinars, paid communities, and subscriptions to helpful products/services.

I know that other instructors have this same question and belief that the student's learning can be massively improved through these offerings but there is a fear and lack of clarity on the rules.

To be perfectly honest, Udemy's platform could be massively improved by giving instructors the ability to offer the above-mentioned products/services inside of the Udemy platform rather than sending students away from the platform.

    Looking forward to your answers!

    Hi there! Hi everyone!

I'm really excited about the upcoming webinar and have a few questions for the instructors. I'd love to know:

    1. How do you determine the optimal structure and length for your courses to keep students engaged and ensure they complete the course?

    2. How do you foster a sense of community and interaction among your students, especially in an online setting?

    3. What marketing strategies have you found most effective for promoting your courses on Udemy?

    4. What resources or tools do you recommend for first-time course creators to ensure high-quality content?

    5. What technical challenges did you face when first starting on Udemy, and how did you overcome them?

Thanks so much! Looking forward to learning from everyone's experiences.

    All the best, NS

  • I will be waiting

  • Hi, Eagerly waiting for it

  • Thank you all for your contributions, God bless. Please @Salil Dhawan
you made mention of you having in place a system that works for you in your course creation process, that even if you are not there, things will still keep on rolling. Please, my questions are:

    1. When did you know you would be needing extra hands in your course creation journey?

    2. How did you choose your supporting hands in terms of assigning roles or giving job description?

    3. What tasks do you give out and which ones do you handle by yourself?

    4. Do you choose and train them on what you need their help on or you search and go for freelancers with past records of similar activities to what you need on your project?

    Thank you.

    Hi @Michael_D_Nwaogu

    Thank you for your questions.

    1. I realized I needed extra help when I became overwhelmed with video editing tasks. It was consuming most of my time, preventing me from focusing on creating engaging learning experiences for my students.

    2. I started by posting a job on Upwork, specifying that I needed a video editor for online course content. I shared a sample video and requested candidates to edit a two-minute clip as a test. Based on the quality of the sample submissions, I selected the best candidate. I worked with a fixed price model negotiated upfront to stay within budget.

    3. I delegate tasks such as slide creation, design work on resources, and video editing. I retain core responsibilities that directly affect the learner experience, like research, scripting, and recording. I also dedicate considerable time to reviewing my team’s work to ensure quality.

    4. When selecting freelancers, I review their profiles and past records, but most importantly, I ask them to complete a sample task. I am willing to pay for this sample because it's the most effective way to assess someone’s capability.

Feel free to reach out if you have any more questions.

  • Wow!☺ may your days be long @Salil Dhawan
. Wish there was a better to say thank you. Thank you very, very much. I wish you more success in all your endeavours. You have answered the ones I have for now, sir. God bless.
