Is there a ratio between videos and articles?

Hello, I have a question I would like to ask.

Is there a minimum ratio between videos and articles? I am creating a theory course with more than 80 lectures, and I think the best way to teach is by using text and a few videos. Is using way more articles rather than videos a bad thing?

Thanks to everyone in advance.

Hi @MariosPizinas Thanks for your questions While there’s no strict rule regarding the ratio of videos to articles in your course, Udemy requires a minimum of 30 minutes of video lectures, divided into at least five segments. Most Udemy courses primarily utilize video content It all depends on what you want to offer and how you want to value your course. You can also take a look at similar courses on the platform to get an idea.

    I hope this helps!

People who purchase courses on Udemy are accustomed to video courses. If you browse through all the best-sellers throughout the Udemy marketplace, you'll see that they're video-based courses with the instructor interacting in a relatable way. I wouldn't recommend a text-based heavy course with with a few videos, as it most likely won't do well. If the best way of teaching your course is text-based, have you considered writing a book on it?

  • Hello @AHardin,

    Thank you for your reply!

The course I'm developing is actually based on a book I'm writing. Reflecting on my own experience with online studies, I found that text-heavy courses with occasional practical videos worked best for me. I'll give this approach a try.

    Thanks again!

  • Hi @ElianaC,

    Thanks for your helpful information!

By looking at similar courses on Udemy, I've noticed that many of them also have a heavy text-based format, and it seems to work very well. I'll keep this in mind as I develop my course.

    Thanks again for your advice!
