Should I modify the course URL Udemy gives me?

Hi,
I'm a new Udemy instructor, about to post my first course. I was hesitating whether to accept the URL Udemy offered as it is quite long, given that it references the whole title of the course or whether it is better to modify the URL by simply including my name and the key area I am teaching. I thought this was potentially a better link to send out to potential students rather than a long link without my name in it. (By the way at the moment I have no plans to publish another course in the same area).
But I wondered if this was a mistake and it is better to have all the key words from the title in the URL.
Any advice would be appreciated.
Thanks,
Paul

If the topic I'm teaching isn't already taken as the URL, I'll modify it to consist of the primary topic people would be searching for. It's not clear if the URL matters much for SEO these days, but a shorter, concise link will look better in your marketing.
So yeah, if you can do better than the default URL, do so.

Hi @paulp100, Thanks for your question. You can definitely update the course URL, but you have to request is through the Instructor Support team. To contact the team, please open the help center article here and click “Contact Us” on the right, and please make sure to provide the course name and the new URL you want to add.
I hope this helps!

I look to keep my course URLs short. I do try to keep keywords in the URL. One of my first courses I left a version reference in the URL. This course is now 10 years old. I wish I didn't leave the version reference in the URL as the course has gone through a few updates. I don't want to update the URL now as the course has links all over the place. I've left the version out my new courses.

Thank you Kyle. I was thinking, like you say, that the shorter link looks better when I send out the link but didn't know if this was a big mistake. Also I wasn't sure if I can put my name in the URL.
ElianaC - just to be clear I haven't submitted it yet so can still choose the URL.

Thanks Marina and Kane. Is it ok to put your name in your course URL?

Hi @paulp100,
No worries, your URL hasn’t been changed yet 😊. Since we can’t provide account-level support here in the community, you’ll need to submit a support ticket to request the update, as Eliana mentioned.
Also, you can make this change at any time and as often as you like, there are no restrictions. Just keep in mind, as Kyle pointed out, if your course links have already been shared externally, updating the URL can cause issues since the old links will no longer direct users to your course.
