How did you overcome self-doubt or nervousness in front of the camera?

A common question we see in the community is whether an instructor needs to show their face in course videos. While it’s not required (and there are successful courses that don’t), appearing on camera can help build a stronger connection with your learners.

There are plenty of reasons someone might choose not to, such as privacy concerns, but for many, the biggest hurdle is simply the fear of being on camera.

Even though I had given hundreds of public talks and workshops, I was still nervous when I started recording myself in front of a camera. Strange but I was more confident in front of a live audience. The answer was just recording myself in front of the camera, with no one else around, watching myself and doing it over and over again. Repetition matters as in the development of any skill.

I don't appear much on camera in my courses. In the promo video and possibly at the beginning of a section. I'm not really standing in front of a classroom and I'm recording from home which has a nice atmosphere so I don't really feel nervous. I might have to do multiple takes if I slip up while speaking. I suppose my tip would be to record in a pleasant environment and don't sweat it since you can always rerecord a video if you don't like the result.
