Udemy has a pilot program underway, including ads in free courses.

As @Sergio-Apasoft said, Udemy only displays adds in free courses. You can’t disable it unless you make your course paid.

UDEMY PLACING ADS ON PAID COURSES?!?

I have students complaining to me that they are seeing ads on my paid courses.

I have never published a free course, so there's no reason why any student should be seeing ads.

I'll pull my courses from Udemy if this is an intended direction. My hope is it's just a failed rollout of a new feature.

Totally unacceptable.
