How do we get our course looking the way we expected?

Hi

We have finished putting our course together, and have tried uploading the first lecture and its slides.  We were expecting the result to look like the experience we had watching the official Udemy course ‘How to Create an Online Course’.

There, the tutor is visible in full-screen, and the slides elegantly transition in at intervals – again full-screen – and the text scrolls across while the tutor continues speaking in the background.  Then the slide transitions away and the tutor is once more visible in full screen.  And so on until the end of the lecture.

What we’re currently seeing isn’t even remotely like that.  Instead, the first slide is full screen, with our video as a thumbnail (seemingly behind a partial white filter).  At no point are we visible in full screen.  And the slides do not elegantly transition, but simply jump from one to the next, with no scrolling text.

So, we would be grateful if you would walk us through, step by step, the specific things we need to do, so our lectures look like the Udemy course we’ve seen.

What you’re expecting is actually a bit of a misunderstanding of how Udemy video lectures work by default.

Udemy does NOT automatically create that “full-screen tutor + animated slides + scrolling text” experience. That polished style you saw in the “How to Create an Online Course” course is usually made using video editing software before uploading, not something Udemy generates automatically.

Here’s what’s happening in your case:

* Udemy player shows either:* Video-only full screen, OR
* Slides as main content with instructor shown in a small overlay (picture-in-picture style)

It will NOT automatically animate slides or switch layouts unless your video already contains that editing.

If you want the same professional look, you need to prepare it BEFORE upload using tools like:

* Camtasia
* Canva + video export
* OBS + editing software
* Premiere Pro / CapCut

Typical workflow:

* Record your talking head (camera)
* Record or design slides separately
* Edit them together in your video editor
* Manually control:* When slides appear/disappear
* Zoom in/out transitions
* Text animations

Udemy itself is just a player t doesn’t “style” your lecture automatically.

So the key difference is:

👉 That course you watched = pre-edited professional video

👉 Your upload = raw lecture + slides inside Udemy player

What software are you using? In the course Q&A of ‘How to Create an Online Course’ you could ask your question and specifically ask what software they are using. You could even share a link to the specific video you are referring too. Otherwise it’s almost impossible to understand the effect you are after. The effect you are describing sounds cool. I’m using screenflow. If I were to try this on screenflow then I would film myself and the slides simultaneously (or separately - it doesn’t matter). Next when editing You can apply an action to both the slides and yourself that changes the scale+translation, etc. So I would take my image and scale to 100% and the slides set to zero percent and vice versa for showing the slides. Additionally you can manipulate translation and rotation with ScreenFlow and probably almost any other editing software. I think screenflow is a bit expensive. I’ve heard OBS is good and free. Anyways I am just guessing because I haven’t seen your video or Udemy’s video.
