I’m noticing that the audio in my Udemy course videos sounds clear locally but becomes noticeably lower in quality after uploading. Is there a recommended audio format or bitrate I should use to avoid this compression issue?
I have had a similar concern with course audio. From what I understand, Udemy does process/encode uploaded videos, so some difference in quality can be noticeable after upload.
For the export, I would use an MP4 with H.264 video and AAC audio, which Udemy lists as its preferred combination. Udemy also recommends making sure the audio is clear, consistent, and comes through both left and right channels.
If the audio still sounds noticeably worse after processing, I would also try Udemy’s test-video feature before re-recording the whole course. They can provide feedback on the audio and video quality.
Thanks, that’s helpful. I wasn’t aware that Udemy re-encodes the uploaded videos, so the difference I’m hearing could be related to the processing rather than the original recording itself. I’ll make sure my exports use MP4 with H.264 video and AAC audio and check that the audio is consistent across both channels.
I’ll also try the test-video feature before making any changes to the full course. I’m thinking of it somewhat like a starbucks calc, where checking the input and final result separately can help determine whether the difference comes from the original values or from how the system processes them. If the test upload still sounds noticeably lower quality, would the feedback from that test normally indicate whether the issue is the original audio settings or simply the expected result of Udemy’s encoding?
Hi @benjenny2 yes, the test Video feedback will specifically tell you if any quality issues come from your recording setup versus standard platform encoding.
Once you upload your test video, you should get feedback within 1–2 business days. Feel free to reply back here if you have any questions once you receive your results!
