Hi everyone! My course is all set and ready to go. I'm curious — what worked best for you when you were brand new? How did you get those first few students to find and enroll in your course? Any simple, low-effort tips I can try as a beginner instructor? Thank you so much! 😊

My first students did not come from the course page. They came from people who already knew me.
Before my first online course I spent a couple of years looking for a partner to launch it with, and five people turned me down. What moved things was showing my expertise in public first: I ran live seminars, started a professional community on Facebook for people in my field, and wrote articles for a popular blog. When the course finally opened, there was already a group of people who had seen how I explain things.
So my simple tip: pick one place where your future students already spend time and be useful there every week. For a Photoshop course in Tagalog that could be a local design group where you post short before-and-after tips. The first enrollments usually come from there, and those students leave the first reviews.

Honestly the thing that helped the most is if my course received the “Hot and Fresh” badge. That way for two months your course appears on Udemy’s first page under your course search topic. Without that I have found it almost impossible to get students. I did get some students from Reddit but it is easy to get banned for self-promotion on Reddit so contact the mods or read the rules. I received almost no students through Facebook. Recently I have been posting promotions on LinkedIn and that has helped. It usually helps to have multiple courses on Udemy and then you can cross-promote between your courses. That doesn’t help much if you’re new to Udemy and only have one course. Good luck!
