Meet your new community manager, Chrystie

Hey Udemy Instructors!
I wanted to quickly introduce myself, I’m Chrystie and I am your new Community Manager! I’m thrilled to be in the presence of experts, entrepreneurs and our long time Udemy instructor community members. I have been working with communities for over 10 years and have also created a few online courses myself, so I am very excited to be taking over this role at Udemy.
My goal is to make this community invaluable to your Udemy experience. I hope to deliver resources and events that educate, motivate and inspire you to reach your highest potential at Udemy.
My role here is to be your advocate which means while you may not see me in the day-to-day operations of the community, but you can be sure I am working on your behalf behind the scenes to develop new programs to help you become even better at what you do.
You can continue to tag your community moderators for support or with specific Udemy questions, but you are free to reach out to me at any time with suggestions that you have for the community or things that you would like to see on the platform.
Which leads me to my question...what would you like to see more of in this community? Leave a comment below! I am all ears and looking forward to making this the most valuable instructor community on the web.

Welcome!
It would be good to get the community focused again on positive, constructive discussions, such as instructors sharing tips for driving reviews, launching new courses, choosing a topic, etc. Perhaps actively interviewing some of the top instructors would make for some great content here.

@FrankKane
I completely agree. One of my top priorities is to facilitate productive discussions that help everyone in the community learn from each other!4 -
Welcome @ChrystieV
. I would love to see a positive vibe return to the community. It has gotten a little bogged down of late.I share @FrankKane
thoughts about the interviews with instructors. Could be done live - say once a month - with a live Q&A to make it more interactive for everyone else. It would also be great to feature some of the faces behind the scenes at Udemy - their role, their passion, their vision for the future be that personal and/or for Udemy. That way we would have a greater connection to the people working for our successes here behind the scenes. I still recall going to my first Udemy live and behind overwhelmed by the fact it was run by real people - not a bunch of computers whirring in an office!3 -
Welcome @ChrystieV
, we had many questions related policy matters. We may need to have constructive discussion when we open such topics and guide new instructors.1 -
@SharonRamel
You bring up a great point! Showing the faces of the Udemy team & instructors in interviews or Q&A's is a great way to bring some positivity into this community!3 -
Welcome @ChrystieV
we are glad to have you here!I think there are a few things that could make the community better in general.
- More open communication about any changes and updates that effect instructors and students.
- More educational content for creators, a good deal of senior instructors do share their experiences but a more structured format may be more beneficial. There are so many thing you need to do and not do as a new instructor, I think the quality of instructors would be higher if they were provided better resources.
- More sub-forums, my needs are very different than someone just starting out. I have been on Udemy for 4+ years, been full time 3 years and have a team behind me. We have groups etc. outside of Udemy but it would make more sense here. How to find/onboard staff, how to set up processes, workflows, automations, not necessarily done by Udemy but a subforum where we can discuss topics that are of interest to us.
- More engagement from Udemy's side, it is often just announcements and replies to contact policy@ or instructorsupport@ for a specific answer.

@Thor
I appreciate your thoughtful comment!Creating content for entrepreneurs and businesses is my specialty and I am looking forward to working with the extended Udemy team to create Instructor resources, webinars, and guides to help everyone (regardless of level) become even more successful.
You will also see that the Udemy moderators will be starting and facilitating more discussions outside of the traditional announcements and feature updates. My goal is to create a more collaborative dynamic for everyone in the community!

Hi Chrystie, nice to see you. I am confused to what is the best thing for me to do with my course, so I hope you can help me. I have had my course astrology for beginners made easy for about 4 years with Udemy and this has sold well. Since the changes in april my income has dropped due to the deals promotion and the company selling them for just 9.99 as I only now get 34 percent this means just over 3.00.
my questions are - is there a way for me to be part of the deals but ask for it to be a higher deal price.
q - if I opt out of the deal promotions, can I return and opt back into the deal promotion at a later date?
many thanks

It's nice meeting you @ChrystieV
This a good development. When there is a good communication in a community, there comes in more peace.
Yes, I don't have much to say again as majority of what I wanted to say for now has been said above.
I will just want to add that Udemy should consider to upgrade some of it's policy, like where student should have a more reasonable reach in the course progress before having the privilege to leave a rating on a course. No one can make a good judge of a course if it would be a valuable / good one or not in less than 2% progress now.

Welcome!
Great to meet you @ChrystieV
I would love to learn more about what Udemy is currently working on, whether thats updating and reviewing policies, new features, new plans etc.Here's one example:
A lot of instructors voice the same problems over and over again, however, none of us know whether anything is actually happening in the background to address them.
Which leaves us all to ask ourselves "Does Udemy even care?"
I'm confident a lot of us here would prefer an answer rather than just guessing whats going to happen.. regardless if its the answer we want to here.
More transparency would go a long way.0 -

Hi @ChrystieV
I joined the community welcome committee and I was supposed to receive an invitation to a private group in the Community to chat and share information.
I have not received anything.
What seems to be the issue?
