Can I add a user that isn't an instructor or teaching assistant?

I'd like my assistant to be able to do some backend activities (like proof reading). Is there a way to add someone as a user without her being visible to students?

    , great question!

    You have the option to add your assistant as a co-instructor in your course and make them 'invisible' on your course landing page, however, please note that instructors must be listed as visible in order to send promotional emails and educational announcements for the course, as well as respond in the Q&A.
