Hey instructors!
Setting goals is an exciting step toward growth, but getting started can sometimes feel overwhelming. Whether it’s a big project like creating a new course or a smaller goal like improving engagement, taking that first step is often the hardest. But once you start, momentum can build quickly.

I use different strategies to achieve my goals. For example:
- Assigning specific days of the week to focus on a particular goal.
- Dedicating 15 minutes to my goal as soon as I get home—before eating, checking emails, or watching YouTube.
- Doing the same but spending 15 minutes on my goal before heading out.
- Tracking my progress, such as recording the number of lectures I complete daily. If I’m working on a new course, I log my progress in Google Sheets.
- Setting firm deadlines. For instance, I aimed to publish a course in January and released it on January 30th, even before it was fully complete. I kept refining and adding content while it was live.
- Choosing goals aligned with my interests. I have to genuinely enjoy the course topic I teach—I can’t create a course just for the money.
- Prioritizing what truly matters. My main focus is creating content and recording lectures. I don’t spend time reading books or watching videos about course creation. While some of my course creator friends (not on Udemy) love discussing podcasts and books on the topic, I find it more productive to focus on actual course development. That said, I do unwind occasionally with a Simpsons episode or a movie.
Happy Course Creation!

@RonErez Your approach to setting firm deadlines is interesting. I will do that in the next course. Thanks for sharing.

I follow the below points to achieve the goals:
- Use Trello to track the items in a Sprint board.
- Keep a diary that has one page for each day with time slots. I jot down the to-do list for that day and plan the tasks for each hour for that day (working hours).
- Review the weekly and monthly progress and adjust the following week's tasks. All these are tracked in the above diary, which has provision for weekly and monthly goal reviews and trackers.
- Things don't go as planned many times: I adjust the day's activities or even the week's activities using the same Trello and diary.
