New Instructor – Looking for Advice on Reaching Students for My First Course

Hello everyone! 😊

My name is Dr. Marine Sargsyan, and I’m a cardiology resident in Armenia currently pursuing an MSc in Preventive Cardiovascular Medicine at the University of South Wales (UK).

I’m passionate about disease prevention and medical education, and I’ve just taken my first exciting step into the world of online teaching by publishing my very first Udemy course:

👉 “Mastering Dyslipidemia with Clinical Case Scenarios”

This course is built to help medical students, residents, and healthcare professionals improve their understanding of lipid disorders using:

  • Real-world clinical cases
  • MCQs to test and reinforce learning
  • Guideline-based approaches to lipid management

As a new instructor, I’m really eager to learn how to reach more students and grow in this field.

I would be so grateful if you could share:

  • How did you get your first 50–100 students?
  • What platforms, methods, or techniques helped you the most?
  • Any advice for building visibility and trust, especially in a healthcare-related course?

Thank you in advance for your support and wisdom — I’m excited to learn from this amazing community!

Warm regards,
Dr. Marine Sargsyan

  • Hi, Dr. Marine and welcome!

I would start with this: Promote Your Course With Coupons and Referral Links – Udemy

So you create free coupon and distribute among your network (possibly use social media and try groups there).

Hi Mike, thank you so much for the warm welcome and helpful suggestion!

I’ve actually already started using the coupon and referral link tool. I’ve shared it with my network and on social media, and I’m exploring more ways to reach the right audience. I really appreciate you taking the time to guide me. Looking forward to learning from everyone here and supporting each other’s growth on Udemy!

    Warm regards,
    Marine

Hi @Marine, Welcome to our community!😊

I know that marketing a course can be challenging, but no worries, this is one of the most discussed topics in the community. You can find the Best Instructor Posts of All Time — Marketing here; these should provide helpful insights and best practices from other instructors.

I also recommend watching this webinar we had a few months ago, Webinar Replay: 5 Things Every Instructor Should Do After Publishing.

Please check it out, and I'm sure you will learn a lot about what to do after publishing your course!

Thank you @Mike_on_Udemy , for sharing that useful information ☺️
