If you’ve ever learned or taught storyboarding, what advice would you give me for structuring the
first part
of a beginner course so it’s clear, engaging, and not overwhelming?
Make the intro short and to the point. The student should see meaningful results in the two lectures directly after the introduction. The audio and video should be perfect. Most students do not complete courses or don't get very far so the beginning has to be excellent and appealing. I did that in my iOS course where students create (a very simple) app by the third lecture. Finally make sure the first section is always up-to-date. Of course the entire course should be appealing and up-to-date but the first few lectures are crucial to keep students motivated to continue the course.
