1080p video processing not happening

I have seen discussions about problems with uploaded videos not being available

I have been uploading videos for some months - they have all being processed and are all available - but recently, they are only available in up to 720p.

I have tried uploading older videos which were processed into 1080p as new lessons (the cours isn't live yet) and whilst the original processing generated a 1080p version - now, if I create a new lesson with the same file uploaded it only creates a 720p lesson

Is this problem widespread and part of the problem being discussed elsewhere or is this unique to me ?

Any help or advice would be much appreciated as I'm getting really anxious that I may have to re-record my entire course with the screen zoomed in more if Udemy ar no longer going to support 1080p - which would take months ...

I have reached out to support but they have just filed my problem with your tech team and are not being very forthcoming about this.

I would very much like to know whether the problem that is being experienced elsewhere by many people is the same as mine - which would give me a great deal of confidence that it will get fixed - and I won't need to re-record my lessons

I am actively recording every day and assuming I will be able to eventually publish 1080p

I would very much like to know if my problem is a known issue and experienced by others

I’m experiencing the same issue. I record my videos in 1080p with good quality, upload them, but they are still only available in 720p. I currently have a new course ready to launch, but I don’t want to publish it while the videos are limited to 720p, since the original recordings are in 1080p and the quality is much better.

I have already contacted support, but the issue has not been resolved yet.

I am experiencing this was well. I got feedback from support and they told me that they have escalated it to engineering. So this means that there is an actual bug/issue in the system. What's interesting is that it seems to be limited to 1920X1080 videos. I tried to upload three videos of this resolution (which is my usual resolution) and all got stuck for over 24 hours. So I cancelled the uploads, reduced the resolution of all 3 videos to 1280X760 and then set them to upload again. Within 2 hours, all three of them uploaded successfully. Of course this is not a solution, as 1280X760 does not look great at all.

If the engineering team are working on it that's the best I can hope for.

Of course I am totally sure they will fix it at some point if they are working on it.

There do appear to be two quite separate issues :

1) uploaded videos are not available at all : yesterday this problem seemed to get solved for me, and some of my lessons which were suffering from this problem magically appeared and are now available in preview: hooray !

2) not processing to 1080 : this problem still seems to exist. All my videos uploaded for the last 2 weeks are still limited to 720p - i am continuing to test this daily and the problem doesn't appear to have been fixed.

Apologies if I am being ultra-cautious and pedantic but I just wanted to check that we are talking about this second problem, not the first !

The 1080p problem is a show-stopper for anyone demonstrating writing code in an editor with "normal" text sizes !

Without it fixed I would need to re-record my entire course with bigger text, which wouldn't be the most fun I've ever had :-)

Hi,

I have exactly the same problem. It started around February 27, when we were almost done uploading the videos for our newest course (that was released March 1st).

Until February 27 everything was fine: all the videos were presented in 1080p almost at once.

Then, all the videos that we uploaded on February 27th and later (both new videos and some "old" videos that we remade) were only in 720p.

Additionally, the affected videos:

didn't get captions (and are still uncaptioned)
didn't show in free preview (the ones that were marked for free preview).

The second problem is already fixed (since several days), but the resolution and captions are still unsolved, and it has been more than two weeks now.

I have an ongoing conversation with the support, but I have no idea about the process of identifying the bug, as I only get a very vague answers "the team is working on this issue"…

It is very frustrating, as I'm about to start creating my next course, but I'm very discouraged by these issues.

Yep also experiencing this issue. Very frustrating when I planned to publish a new course today. I know for a fact I'll get bad reviews due to the video quality. Less than ideal for a course launch.

However, I must express my serious concern regarding the delay in resolving such a small technical issue. My course channel is currently in a critical growing stage and has recently started generating revenue. An issue like this remaining unresolved for more than seven days is very disappointing, especially since 1080p resolution is essential for my learners to clearly view the software interface in the training videos.

Another concern is the lack of follow-up updates from your side. Apart from reply emails when I ask, there has been no proactive update regarding the progress. As instructors, we at least expect periodic status updates while the issue is being investigated.

I am attaching the lecture links and the same video again for your reference. If possible, please try uploading or reprocessing the video from your side, or kindly advise me on what immediate action I should take to resolve this.

I sincerely hope this issue can be treated with urgency and that I will receive regular updates until it is resolved.

Hello, It's been a week waiting for this, I'm trying to upload and publish my course (3D Modeling software) and after waiting hours for the video to process, max available resolution on PC is 720p and the course looks really bad, you can't even read the text. I did write to the support with no answer yet.
Just to update, my course is 2560x1440p 16:9 60fps, I did test also with 1920x1080p 16:9 and the result is the same. Tried uploading them individually, bulk upload, and nothing, I always get 720p as max.

My course is already finished and ready to be launched. I’ve added subtitles and I’ve honestly lost count of how many times I’ve reviewed everything.

It’s still stuck at 720p, and I haven’t received any response from support.

Releasing a course in 720p in 2026 is honestly unacceptable.

It's even crazier to me that apparently this bug has been ongoing for 3 weeks. For a platform who's sole purpose is to provide video content, the fact that we're limited to 720p is just insane.

Hello Folks. Let me share an update here and try to shed some light on what is going on. My team here an Udemy has been working on replacing a very outdated video processing pipeline over the last few months. We deployed the first iteration of that pipeline at the end of Febrauary. It hasn't moved as quickly or smoothly as we planned and has obviously caused some concerns.

Here is what we are doing (and support is relaying all of this to my teams and we are working to address your concerns).

We are currently reducing the number of MP4 outputs that we generate - this is what you are seeing when you only get 720p videos. The reason for this is, we generally don't want MP4 to be the format served consistently to learners - it is not always the most efficient and best experience. The desire for it to be the first output available is it is the fastest to produce.

The second release that we are doing will be in the coming days that will bring back adaptive streaming with DRM for all course content. We wanted to do this earlier but some of the other processing issues from last few weeks had us delay to make sure the system wasn't going to be bogged down by pushing a backlog of courses and make you even more frustrated. We are currently running batches of courses that were uploaded to generate the new DRM outputs for courses.

With the new pipeline we are able to make adjustments faster and work to increase the quality output - eventually to support higher than 1080p outputs while adding industry standard content protection to keep the courses secure.

Please continue to provide your feedback, we are getting it and working to make the platform better for your and your students.

Hello, and thanks for the update.

A quick question. If I publish my course now with the current 720p output, will it be upgraded in the future to 1080p or 1440p as originally uploaded? Or will I need to re-upload all the video lessons, considering they take hours to process?

This is really important for me, as it’s currently delaying my course launch. If higher resolutions are not supported automatically, I may need to release the course on other platforms in the coming days.

At the moment, 720p is not acceptable for the quality of my course. Since it is software-related, the interface text becomes barely readable.

No need to re-upload anything - we will create the new outputs based upon your original uploaded file.

Does it will affect my reviews? I'm pretty sure If I publish my course now, first students will give a bad review just because the 720p quality, because in PC/web view, the interface is barely readable because of that, and if there's not a clear date about when the 1080p will be available on my course, so I can't control that and I may have to delete it.

UB students already get DRM content served through courses today - generally today that doesn't happen until a course reaches a certain threshold/trigger in the previous iterations. This is making it happen sooner in the flow.

Hello all - we released the updates on Friday so new courses will start with MP4 generation as it had but also have a streaming output that includes all of the rendition levels you expect - the MP4s will return initial but shortly after the adaptive output will replace it. There may be occurrences where you still get the MP4 returned - we need to make an adjustment to the preview logic to fix this but the assets are generated.

Hi @DavidOstrow642 . My new course, published 2 weeks ago, still doesn't have 1080p; output is limited to 360p and 720p.

Is there a time scale as to when we can expect courses which have been published in the last few weeks to have adaptive output?

I uploaded my videos in 4K at 60fps, but they're currently capped at 720p. Do I need to re-upload them later？
