On each course, there is a number of reviews - followed by a number of students - Does this mean "this many courses sold?"

The format is like this:

stars...no of students enrolled...(no. of students who left the review)

The number you see within parentheses denotes the number of students who left the review. Another, bigger number denotes the number of students who enrolled.

Yes, that denotes how many students 'enrolled' : including paid as well as free.
