Image use and copyrights

Hello,

I am trying to design a medical related course where I would want to use anatomical pictures.  Does anyone have suggestions of where I can find images that do not break copyright laws depicting anatomy for my course?

@ColinTempe I heavily use https://www.canva.com/. They have many royalty-free images. They have paid plan also for numerous images. I did try the paid plans for a few months.

@bala2020 Yes, I have been using paid version of canva for a couple of months. I take image for my course from it.

You can use it for course image as well, but make sure it has the correct pixel as per Udemy requirement

Consider subscribing to istockphoto.com. With them, you can prove you hold a license to use the images in your course, and they offer some indemnity protection should a creator of an illustration later claim that their image is copyrighted outside of istockphoto's license terms.

Having gone through an expensive legal battle defending usage of an image I found on one of those "free" image websites, I think it's money well spent. And they do have a fairly good range of anatomical images. https://www.istockphoto.com/photos/anatomical-chart?phrase=anatomical%20chart&sort=best

Can you tell which website?
Can we use google image after giving credit to the source or after editing a bit?

The legal battle involved an image I found using Google Image Search with its licensing filters. It turned out the image had more complicated licensing terms than Google implied, and because I didn't follow them exactly, I got sued. There are people who post images online making them look like they are free to use, but then

track down anyone who uses them and sues them. You have to be careful.

You absolutely cannot just use an image you find on Google just by crediting it. At least not in the US. You can be sued for up to $250,000 per usage of an unlicensed image.

It is also possible for you to download an image from pixabay or pexels that somebody uploaded who did not actually hold the rights to the image. If the original rights owner finds that you used it, you can still get sued.

That's why it is best to pay for a license you can prove for the images you use, from sites like istock.com.

My very firs post here. Besides pexels, another option could be www.pixabay.com Each picuture has different usage right, so check each picture you are interested on to make sure you can use it for your purposes.
