If you are a Mac user, then you already have
1. Quicktime (for screen recording)
2. iMovie (for video editing)
But, I saw that the laptop was getting heated up quite fast while recording over 20 minutes using QuickTime. So, I switched to Camtasia, which has both recording and editing features, along with a load of other features.
I haven't recorded myself in any videos, so I didn't use any DSLR cameras, although I have plans to use them for intro videos in the future.

Please search for OBS Studio in Google. This one is free, open source. Looks like feature rich. I haven't used it though.
The actual website is obsproject[dot]com
