Why is my course not selling?
Hi, I'm new here. I put my course out about 2 weeks ago now.
https://www.udemy.com/course/beginners-magic-course-2024/
I have not done any promotions yet because I wanted to see how Udemy natural / organic would sell. I have had 0 sales so far. I think it hasn't even had many page views from what I can see.
Can anyone tell me if there is anything im doing wrong. Or is that just the truth; no promoting on my part = no sales?
Thanks!

Its a pity, seems you put a lot of effort into the course...so I guess my first two questions would be, did you do any market research on Udemy for this? Is there an actual demand for a course on magic on this platform?

Thanks for the reply @HofmeyrdeVo128
Yes I did do research and I see quite a few successful magic courses on Udemy. Showing that there is demand. Some are listed here:

I think my course is not being shown when searching for magic course or magic tricks - is that normal because it has 0 reviews?
Would a course normally not have any organic sales when its launched?

It is unfortunately normal yep, especially if you are a new course creator and do not have an established audience to sell to, and it is in an area with lots of courses the same topic to boot. There is a small window of opportunity in the "Hot and New" category for your course to be shown to prospective students, but is not guaranteed to be successful all.

Okay, does anybody have any other advice? Maybe just seeing my course and seeing what I've done wrong?

The production quality (A/V) of your course is quite good, so it's not that. I suspect the primary issue is a combination of two things:
First, magic tricks a fairly competitive niche, according to the Udemy Marketplace Insights tool. It's not an overly saturated niche, but there are a 96 courses in that niche you're fighting for rankings and sales. And without any marketing or socialization of your course on your end, Udemy will promote the best-sellers over your course. If you search on Google, you'll see which course's they're promoting.
Secondly, compared to the best sellers on the first page of Udemy results, your course is on the shorter side, with it only being 1 hour long. Several of the best-selling courses range in the 2 to 4+ hour range. So you have that going against you as well. When people look to buy a course on Udemy, the often equate length with value, so the longer the course, the better in their minds.
I'd recommend doing two different things:
1) Start socializing your course. I don't recommend paid advertising, because it's known to have a negative ROI. But as someone who's been performing magic for awhile, I suspect you have may know some people who might be interested in your course. Also, if you're not capturing emails on your website to build a marketing list, I'd recommend you start doing so.
2) Consider looking for ways to increase the length of your course, at minimum 1.5 hours or longer to complete better with your competitors.
Hope that helps.

Udemy is dying! Find other platforms to sell your courses.
