student's reviews
I published my first course on Udemy 15 days ago and promoted it through a free target coupon. Many students have enrolled, but only a few have left reviews so far. Can I message the students to leave a review based on their experience, or is it against any of Udemy's policies?

Yes, you can ask for reviews and feedback comments via direct message. The only thing is that don't influence them on WHAT rating to give?!!

Congrats on publishing your first course on Udemy.
It is not against Udemy policies to ask for reviews, you just need to know how to ask for reviews and how NOT to ask for reviews.
For more details about that, I would recommend you to read those two articles

Tips for requesting reviews and ratings
Here are some tips on how you can gather more feedback and review for your course:
- Reach out. Request for feedback and reviews in your course introduction video, the automatic welcome message, via direct messages, through announcement emails, and in between lectures.

Did I get it right? 'Direct message' means I can directly send a message to the enrolled student asking them to leave their honest review.

Hi @Huda123_ Thanks for your question. While reaching out to students about reviews isn't currently against our policy, we advise instructors to be mindful that it may be perceived as overly pushy by some students. We recommend reviewing our guidelines on requesting reviews. Please note that asking students for specific details about the type of review you’d like them to leave is considered a violation of our policies. If you have additional questions, please send an email to policy@udemy.com.
Let us know if you need anything else.

I've never asked for a review directly. Maybe I should have, but it always felt a bit uncomfortable. In my experience, only about 1 in 10 students leaves a review. If a student does leave a negative review, you have the option to reach out and genuinely try to resolve the issue. I've done this before, and often the student updated their review afterward, even though I didn’t ask them to. They appreciated that I addressed their concerns.
As for free coupons, I’ve found that students who get access through them rarely end up watching the course. You could try offering free coupons on platforms like Reddit with the request for feedback as a condition.
It can be tough waiting for those first reviews, and a negative one early on can be especially discouraging.
Good luck!
