Feedback on Video Player Usability Issues

The platform has several usability issues with the video player:

  1. Pressing the "space" key to pause/unpause sometimes causes two identical videos to play simultaneously.
  2. Clicking on the video player occasionally fails to pause or resume playback.
  3. The transcript hinting and autoscroll features do not work as expected.

These issues make the platform less user-friendly and disrupt the overall experience.

  • I share your concern and can confirm that I'm facing the same issue you pointed out initially.

    1. Pressing the "space" key to pause/unpause sometimes causes two identical videos to play simultaneously.

    What actions can I take?

Same here. Seems to be triggered more easily by skipping back or forth in the video. Sometimes if I use arrow keys to skip several times in short succession, I will end up with multiple audio tracks playing at once. This behavior started suddenly sometime last week, and did not happen in the days before. Sadly can't remember the exact date that it started.

yes this is happening to me as well. Looks like it's more common when i finished a video and a new one started playing.

Really annoying so please prioritize this.

The only way to stop two videos appearing and playing at once is by popping out the media by pressing the Media button (on Brave Browser, it looks like musical notes on the top right).

It will then open the 2nd playing video, and you can pause it so you can just play the main video.

But a BIGGER PROBLEM is that the overlay is still on top of the videos on desktop, and never ever disappears, and obstructs the videos. No wonder the Udemy stock price is down 70%!

Why is else no-one talking about this!?

The number of users affected is "all of them."

Super annoying. I was just watching some of my own videos while organizing some updates, and just moving from one video to another a few times results in audio from multiple videos playing over each other. I can't imagine how frustrating this must be for students and UB clients.

  • Yes, and this must be resulting in lots of 2 and 3* without comments.
It's amazing (and annoying) how so many bugs seem to be popping up in the past few months.
