Need Advice From My Fellow Udemy Instructors

I have a course that has been selected by Udemy Business, but I'm facing a dilemma. The ratings for my course are very different between the marketplace and Udemy Business—4.3 in the marketplace and 4.8 on Udemy Business. I'm confused about why Udemy Business students are satisfied, but marketplace students are less so.

I want to update my course, but I'm unsure whether to:

Create a new course with all the updates based on the negative feedback I've received in the marketplace reviews.
Update the existing course (since it's also selected for Udemy Business).
I’m struggling to decide the best course of action. Can anyone with experience in course creation or a mentor provide guidance on how to approach this situation? Any help or advice would be greatly appreciated

I went through a similar thing. If you wait a while it's worth getting some data. My course is now 80 to 90% Udemy business and therefore the decision is much easier. My approach is to have personas and to speak them directly. Examples:

[1] Those of you in management might need to use your highlighter pens for this take away.
[2] For the rest of you, you might get away with X, Y and Z

The students that are self funded might be people working in NGOs or companies anyway. Stories and anecdotes c an help clarify and bring attention to your subject matter. The trick then, is find enough of these for all participants without over doing it.

If you create a new course, you might have duplicate content and you will need to maintain and manage it… better to create a new course for other areas.

Jonas Schmedtmann does it in another way. He comes up with a table based on speed and experience and then guides his student on which parts of the course they should take.

  • I belive updating existing course would be a better option. Go for new course with new topic.

  • Hi,

In my own experience (with 21 Courses on UDEMY for Business), UfB students expect that what they learn can be applied in their daily life to solve real problems of the organization to which they belong, however, private students generally take the courses for the sole motivation of acquiring new knowledge or because they already know the instructor and "like to listen to him teach...", although they do not need to apply them quickly (they keep them in their MIND), for this reason the grades between UfB and private students can be subtly different,

So my humble advice is "make your courses useful for companies and fascinating for the rest..."

Hugs and HAPPY NEW YEAR TO ALL,

GOOD LIFE TO THE RESTLESS MINDS!,
