August payouts are on the way

  • @KatieBent Apparently I am one of the few PayPal payouts that didn't get it can you please help ?

  • @KatieBent
I still haven't gotten my pay either

  • I just got a notice of a payout by PayPal. I went to PayPal and the amount is $28, not even close! This is as of 9am EST. Hopefully the real amount will arrive soon.

Ooops... never mind. 9:05 the real deal is here.

  • Hi @KatieBent
, can I also ask what the situation is on providing UB amounts for Sept? Is it supposed to be on the fifth business day of the month, and if so was that yesterday? I ask because I don't see that updated yet, so wonder if there is any issue with that?

I know it is not as important as a payment, but knowing the UB amount is an important data point for me at least.

Hi all -- at this point, we've issued 100% of August earnings. If you use PayPal or Payoneer, you should see these amounts right away. If you use bank transfer, the final transference to your account may depend the hours of operation of the relevant banks.

Thanks for bearing with us. Rest assured we're digging into the issues that affected this month's payout process, and working to ensure next month is smoother.

    @WilliamStewart
to your question, the Udemy Business earnings calculation is a separate process. At this stage, I believe we haven't yet posted Udemy Business revenue for September -- I'd expect that to be posted early next week.

I'm logging off at this point so I won't be responding immediately to new comments or questions, but will check back tomorrow along with the regular Community team.

  • Thanks for all your efforts @KatieBent
! We know you did not cause this, and you certainly worked hard to provide updates. Hope you get some good sleep now!

When you can, could you remind me on how the UB updates are supposed to work? I thought they were supposed to be updated on the 5th business day of the month, but might have misremembered that. I just know that they have been delayed several times recently, so am confused on when they are supposed to be available, and am wondering if you can give us any info on the expected provision time if I have the 5th day expectation wrong.

  • Thank you @KatieBent for working with us!

  • It's 9:30 a.m., Central time, and there's nothing pending in my bank account. I have bills that are automatically withdrawn coming up and need to know whether you are sending my payment or not so I can make adjustments. What's happening to direct deposits? I changed to that because you indicated it would be more efficient than using Payoneer (I would never use Paypal these days.) It looks like the folks using those options are getting paid more quickly. Is that correct?

  • OK, my payment has arrived, so thanks! I am now fully satisfied, so I will be clicking 'publish' very soon.

  • It's 10:09 a.m., Central time, and still nothing pending in my bank account. What's happening to direct deposits?

@RyanJaress @KatieBent @Bella I also haven't received a pending payment into my bank account. I bank with JP Morgan Chase, so I would assume, if you were processing all payments through them, I would have a pending payment in my bank account.

Hi @junderwood there could be an additional delay with direct deposit, due to delivery outside of your connecting bank's business hours. You can send an email to instructorsupport@udemy.com to check your account.

  • Also, I called my bank first thing this morning and again just now. Their bookkeeping department doesn't show any payments being sent to my account from you.

  • My bank opened at 8:00 a.m. Central time. The bookkeepers were there an hour earlier to process direct deposits. It's now 11:02 a.m. Central time. I called my bank (again) and they verified that they have not received any payments from Udemy.

  • As you know, emails sent to support aren't responded to for several days. I need to know now if I'm going to get paid or not. I have payments being withdrawn from this account on Monday. Are payments being sent out to all accounts or just some accounts? What's going on?

  • Ms @junderwood we need to be more understanding of this.

This never happened on Udemy, so... I know, we all need payment. But, we all need to have more patience with the team, they are working very hard. I got my payment this morning... And I know you will get it, maybe today.

I don't know in your country, but in my country, the bank doesn't work on weekends. Then you will receive the payment. I know, because I have my money. There may be a delay, but it will come.

    Don't worry, just be patient.

    Relax, breathe.

In the 5+ years I have been on Udemy they have missed the payment date maybe twice.

Payment for August is due on OCT 8th, that is today, Udemy is PST, so it is only 9 in the morning Udemy time, they have 15 hours to deliver your earnings.

    @KatieBent
Just posted ALL payments have been sent, if you are using bank transfers it can take a little longer, but that is on the bank, NOT udemy.

  • I agree with @Thor
    and @Gaston Galarza
    ,

The Udemy team started sharing updates as soon as they found out about the issue. They have been leading it from the front. They have also confirmed that most payouts are done. I believe we must remain calm in these situations. Please take it easy @junderwood

    Thank you.

  • It's now Noon, Central Time and there's still no pending payment on my bank account. My bank confirms that if it had received a payment today, it would already be showing up as a pending payment. The bookkeeping department checked for the third time today and there is no record of any payments from Udemy. What's going on?

    @junderwood

The payment day is today, it is 9am Udemy time (PST), they technically have until midnight to pay you.

That being said, all payments have posted, but with banks it can take up 1 business day for the bank to post it. Yes, I know your bank say they don't have it yet, but having worked in financial institutions that may not be entirely true. Much of that is batched, so it may not be processed by them yet, so front office staff will not see it.

  • Dear Gaston and any others trying to shame me for asking questions and being persistent. I'm concerned because 1) I contacted support about an issue with enrollments being reported correct on the daily digest in August. It took several days for them to respond to me and several weeks for them to get it resolved. If Udemy would be more transparent about what's going on and quit telling us that things will "probably" be fixed by multiple deadlines that have been missed, The latest message was that ALL payments have been sent (not "most," but ALL) and my bank confirms that they have not received mine. I know you're happy. You got paid. I'm not happy. I have not gotten paid and it appears that my check isn't even in the mail.

  • Thor, that's the date they put online after this mess started. Originally, it was October 7, then it changed to November 8, and Udemy said the problem was a display problem. After many hours, they changed the display date to October 8.

  • Dear @junderwood

You can check my posts and until this morning I didn't have my payment either. I do not want to embarrass or offend you, we are all in the same boat: we are all instructors and we all have debts to pay.

This is not a versus, it is not you against me. Nor is "udemy" against us. There was a software problem, which can happen to any company. I'm fine with asking for answers, but when it comes to software problems, even if all the instructors DEMAND 100 times, that won't speed up the solution.

Solutions sometimes take time. I am more than sure that if thousands of people and I receive the payment, you will receive it soon. I only ask you to be understanding with the technical team that has been trying to solve this for days. If we all understand each other and think of Udemy as one big team, things will be better and friendlier for everyone.

Udemy was transparent enough, reporting the news as soon as it came out. The communicators of this forum are clearly NOT from the technical area. They are not the ones who work directly on the software. The technical area informs the collaborators of the community, they notify us.

For my part, I graciously appreciate the efforts of the entire Udemy team. Please be understanding and patient.

  • Thank you for the lecture, Gaston. Glad you got paid. It's now almost 1:00 p.m. Central Time, and I still have not been paid.

    Hi @junderwood
, I understand why you're frustrated and why you're being persistent. I would be, too.

I do have to echo Eliana's suggestion to write to Support. Much as we want to help, we don't have the tools to troubleshoot your individual situation in the Community, since not everyone at Udemy can see what payment method you're using, how much a particular payout is expected to be, if/when it was issued on our end, and other important details.

If Support can confirm that payment was initiated on Udemy's end for your case, then the longest you should expect to wait to see these amounts would be Tuesday morning, after the Monday US banking holiday. It's possible it could be delivered sooner, but I know you mentioned you have bills coming up on Monday that might necessitate adjustments, and I want to be clear about the worst-case scenario.

The best advice I can give you is to ask for confirmation from Support that payment is processing on our end, and expect a Tuesday handoff between JP Morgan and your bank. We're sincerely sorry for the trouble.

As I mentioned with my almost 6 years as an instructor on Udemy, they have been late with payments 2 times, if we count this one 3 times.

It is just one of those things that happens, they pay 100,000+ instructors every month, it is complex, software will have issues every so often.

I expect to get paid on time, but I have also chosen to get a bank deposit which I KNOW can add 24 business hours to the transaction.

I KNOW they will pay me, even if they have been late a day or two twice.

Even with my expectation of getting paid on time I also do not plan getting paid exactly on time every time, the 65+ times they have paid me on-time I am happy for, the 2 times they were late I understand.

  • It's now 2:00 p.m. Central Time. At 3:15 am PT, October 8, Ryan said this: "We've sent payment to accounts linked via Payoneer and direct bank transfer." My bank says that if it had been sent at that time, they should have received it this morning but they haven't. Yes, I'm persistent because it appears that there may be a problem with my account and I want to get it resolved as quickly as possible. I still do not have a pending payment to my account.

  • Thank you for responding, Katie.

Being heard, not judged, means a lot to me. Thank you for that.

I've already written to the Support team Ryan suggested and have not received a confirmation that they received it, so I'm assuming no one is there. As you may know, even in the best of conditions, it often takes several days for Support personnel to get back to persons who write to them. I anticipate it will take several days for Support to get back to me regarding my request.

So you know, my concerns are:

    1) with payments automatically coming out of the account this was to go into, I need to transfer some funds into the account if I will not be getting paid today, which it appears is the case.

    2. I'm also concerned about the time it is taking to fix whatever the problem is. I say this in present tense because if I and perhaps others still are not receiving their royalties, there may be an unresolved problem that those who have received their payment would not be aware of.

    3. I'm concerned about the time this problem persisted because in my experience, working in IT (mostly network security), outages like this generally are due to equipment failure or hacks. I would especially appreciate knowing if this failure was due to hacking and if any sensitive information (such as telephone numbers, SSNs, addresses, etc.) has been compromised.

    Thanks!

Thanks for outlining your concerns clearly, @junderwood
. I've captured them to raise with the broader team when we reconvene.

In the meanwhile, I can confirm this wasn't a security issue, and sensitive information wasn't compromised. I hope that helps a little.

  • That helps a lot, Katie. I've had my information hacked in the past and know that one must be diligent then to make sure their identity is safe. Thanks for sharing that.
