Udemy team, this is unacceptable! The ratings for two of my courses have tanked, and this appears on both the course landing pages and my instructor profile page. The rating for one of my 3 courses, which averages 4.5 to 4.6, is now showing as 3.6.
Enrolments for my affected courses have also gone down to zero. This is materially affecting my revenue. And what's worse, I have promotions running that are leading potential students to a landing page that shows 3.6 ratings for a course that should be 4.5+. When will this be fixed?11 -
Thanks @ElianaC for the announcement. It's been more than a day now and concerning as it reflects poorly on our courses. I hope this does not affect our search rankings in the next day or so. Usually, search algorithms update their ranking periodically. I hope it gets fixed today.

@ElianaC Thank you for letting us know that you know…indeed it is quite relieving and welcome announcement

Thanks @ElianaC for the update. This was literally shocking to see all of a sudden especially for courses where we have 4 and 5 star reviews mostly but the average rating being shown as between 1 and 2 for them.
Hope the issue gets resolved soon because it will not just impact the instructors but also might cause significant decline in overall Udemy's revenue too. Moreover, the perception in the minds of students for Udemy's course quality, might also make a nose-dive.
Please fix the issue before it becomes too late!

I am waiting for this issue to be fixed soon. Thanks for the information.

One of my courses was a best seller but suddenly reset with dropped ratings. But I hope the status will be back soon.
Technical issues do occur. Aa long as your team acknowledge and fix the issues in reasonable time, we are happy.
Regards,

Hi @ElianaC, what about the courses that are now out of udemy Business and no more bestselling badge because of this issue?
1 -
Is there any expected date when this issue will be resolved?
1 -
I'm glad you guys are working on it. Thanks @ElianaC for keeping us posted.

any chance on update to ETA when this will get fixed, emails are now clogged up by so many tickets, might now be faster to just say here then going through 1 email at a time,

Still not fixed - would be a difficult start of the week for many - Almost 2 days now

@ElianaC - could this also be an opportunity for an improvement in comms around major bugs like this?
This isn't some random bug affecting a single instructor. Plenty of us have been impacted, and we're all feeling an immediate impact on revenue. Sales are markedly down as a consequence.
It would really help if there was more information on how long the bug will take to get fixed, the priority there within Udemy (I really hope this isn't sitting at the bottom of some backlog with a low priority?) and even regular periodical updates on progress so we can understand ETA for the fix.
Even if it were the engineers working on the problem posting a short update to the forum, rather than having to rely on you as the interface? It would save more tickets being raised, and alleviate the anxiety of many that are reflected in the comments coming through.4 -
Alright you've tagged me twice… normally you have to say my name three times before I'll appear.
I've commented a couple of times within the many threads on the matter. I'm not happy about it either (and yes my ratings are impacted as well.) We really have no idea what effort is or isn't being put toward it, the nature of the problem, or the true root cause. I have my suspicions but I'm biting my tongue until we know more. A little empathy for Udemy staff is warranted right now IMO, 20% of their colleagues were just let go.
Regarding how Amazon would handle it, they would wake people up and not let them sleep until it was fixed. But Udemy isn't Amazon.

Well it's possible the people who knew how to fix it are gone now, and some poor engineers are desperately trying to reverse engineer the thing.

Lower ratings resulted in lower enrollments, and now I just lost the 'bestseller' tag for one of my courses.

Instructor support team responded to me couple of hours ago saying that the specialist team is still working on it. No ETA has been given. Hopefully, it will be fixed by the end of Monday.

Thank you for the info! My 4.6 star course dropped to 1 star. More than 4 of my courses have now deflated ratings. My overall ratings has dropped considerably and I can see that it has affected sales too. I would really appreciate if we as instructors know when the issue will be resolved? Also, transparency on how it happened in the first place?

As far as I am concerned reviews that are older than XX (forgot the exact amount) months are taken out of the calculation for the current rating automatically, it's always been like this.
So changes without new reviews are normal, it happened all the time. What's different now?
2 -
Hi @Voider2049 So, if you haven't had any reviews in the last X months, this means that your course will be rated at 0. Does this make sense? It's clear that there's a problem, and Udemy is looking into it.
1 -
@Abderrazzaq Kharroubi yes, if all your reviews that made the score are too old and rotate out while you didn't get any new ones in the meantime, the score would be 0 as there are no eligible reviews available to make a score.
I think it's 12 months, after then reviews rotate out of the calculation.
