What are 3 tips you have to help improve your online marketing for your courses?


  1. I used Camtasia to record Phil Ebiner's sales video. I scripted it, divided it into it's separate parts ("reverse engineering")—Turning it into a template that allows my promotional videos to be as well done as his. You can do the same. Check out promo videos that get sales, template them, and do your own following a proven model!
  2. I used Canva to create course images. Using the same principle of YouTube: Saturation. Making the colors pop out more. And also, very important, you have to be on the picture too! Many of my competitors don't appear on their thumbnails. Students like to see their instructor all the time, so be on it!
  3. I used SEMrush to find good volume keywords to put in my course. This way, I found around 7 keywords I added to one of my courses. These keywords are being searched for daily in Google AND YouTube. This made it EASY for Udemy to invest into advertising for my course. And since competitors did NOT apply SEO in their curriculum, I'm getting all their sales! So remember: Udemy runs advertising. You can make it easier for them, you can also make sure you get a lot of the advertising budget, by doing lessons based on high volume keywords.

I use platforms such as Facebook, Twitter, LinkedIn, and Instagram to promote my courses, share valuable content, and engage with my target audience. I Make sure to create a social media plan, choose the right channels, and use effective tactics such as hashtags, visuals, and influencer marketing to increase my visibility and reach.

  3. Offering value and incentives: Providing value and incentives can help attract and retain students. I  offer free trials, discounts, or bonuses to entice potential students to try my  courses. Also, I make sure to highlight the benefits and outcomes of my courses, such as learning outcomes or certifications, to show the value of my our courses to my students. Additionally, providing excellent customer service  helps me build trust and loyalty with your students.

My three tips:


  1. Have a simple and fast website to showcase your work: articles, videos, code, images, etc. Anything that you make should go on your website. Keep your website fresh.
  2. Interact with your audience. Whichever tool(s) you prefer can work. It could be an email list, Facebook, Twitter, Instagram, etc. It does not matter as long as you have some level of ownership.
  3. Combine items #1 and #2 as much as possible. Use your interaction tool to inform your audience about a new blog post, course, podcast, promotion etc. Direct them to your website for more information.

1) CONGRUENT and AUTHENTIC MARKETING: to build trust and credibility, maintain a solid, original Instructor Teacher Educator Profile across all platforms where the reader/ viewer instantly recognizes your expertise. Keep your profile photo modern and consistent. Write and speak in your own unique voice that is also the same as the way you present on screen.

2) TIPS MARKETING: use to discover what people are asking about your subject and from the results, create a blog post that sets out the Top 10 Tips. Summarize these into a downloadable PDF Cheat Sheet in exchange for their email address.

3) GENEROUS MARKETING: from Previews to Coupon Codes to Free Trials aka 'Lead Magnets' give your potential students a no-pressure chance to try before they buy.

1)  Target audience: My courses are special topics of subjects. Like image processing, machine learning etc. For this reason, I direct people who are suitable for my target audience to my courses. As such, it is sold in my other courses.

2) Books: I'm teacher and author. for creating books and courses for a particular field. It is possible for me to market the book and the course together.

3) Originality and projects: When I use e-mail promotions of Udemy, I'm sharing 2 or more project's images which is in the course content in promotions. Projects that are not in a different course attract a lot of attention. This situation is pozitive for my marketing.

Here are my top 3 tips:

1) If you have a website, add your Udemy courses on there with links to buy. Consider creating a landing/sales page for each of your Udemy courses. Time-consuming, yes, but they'll look super professional and if you have people on your website then they will be looking for all the info they can get before deciding whether to click through to Udemy to make the purchase. They will of course get a lot of information from Udemy too, but you need to generate enough interest from them in order for them to click. Just having the course title and saying 'Click to buy my course' won't get people clicking.

2) Promote your course in Facebook groups. If you don't have your own, that's fine - find groups where your ideal audience are likely to hang out and, if you're allowed, promote your course in there. Watch out for hashtag-special days, like #promomonday and try not to break the group's rules!

3) Put a video on your social media pages as well as posts selling the course. People will love to see a bit of it, consider taking a snippet out of your most popular lecture, and then have a 'For more, get the course at XXX' call to action at the end.

2. Use real life examples for your course

3. If your course have graphs then draw them on white board live, so they can understand them easily

4. State your course outline and objectively very clearly.



Here are some either from my own experience or planning to try soon..

1. Update & tweak the course title, promo video & landing page. It's usually difficult to get it right when we 1st publish our course.

2. Not just leverage the general social media platforms. Instead, short videos on social media like Reels from meta/Instagram or tiktok if you're familiar or even Youtube shorts. I find that these short video formats are easier & faster to create & gets more views in a short time.

3. Engage with our students, especially those who have completed the course or have at least completed a big chunk. Ask for their feedback & request for a rating for the course. Then, push a little further & ask them to share the course with their circle of friends who would benefit from it.

1. (DISCIPLINE AND CONSTANCE) Set up a weekly agenda considering your goals and stick to it, be disciplined. (this is the best advice I could give you).
i created mine in a simple way with artificial intelligence.
2. (PROMOTION) Use your discount coupons in your publications on social networks and you have always used your 2 promotional emails that UDEMY offers to promote your discount coupons. ALWAYS.
3. (PRODUCT) Take care that your classes and promotional videos are of the highest quality, content, audio and attractiveness for your students. (it's no use having all the mkt if you don't offer a quality product).
4. (PRICE) Establish a price strategy for your courses.
(If Udemy is not on promotion you can be on promotion offering your courses at the minimum price available to your students and believe me it works).
Eye. Sometimes Udemy optimizes prices and doesn't allow it.
5. TECHNOLOGY (Don't be afraid to experiment).

1.Youtube Shorts/Instagram reels will reach more people nowadays, Udemy has to provide an option to market online course allow, cross platform canvasing.


2.Introduce AI for marketing so that, when course fee lowered or increased or made it free, the one who browsed that course through account will get notified with the same.


3.Instructor should get a Badge which instructor can post in LinkedIn/Facebook/Instagram so that whoever visit that profile can understand about that instructor and they may go through the course instructor made explicitly.

In my perspective, you can improve your marketing of Udemy courses in four ways:

  1. Create an attention-grabbing title and a detailed description that outlines the benefits of taking the course, while also including relevant keywords.
  2. Next, you can utilize the coupon code that provides a certain percentage or fixed amount discount on their course price. Once the coupon is created, instructors can share it with their email list or use Udemy's email marketing service to send promotional emails to potential students.
  3. Then use social media, share it with your followers, engage with them, join relevant groups, and run paid ads if possible to reach a wider audience; including a link (use the referral link to earn double) to your course in your social media posts can also help interested students find and enrol in your course.
  4. Finally, encourage student reviews, incentivize referrals with rewards or discounts, and engage with reviews to build relationships and increase repeat business when promoting your Udemy courses.

I can certainly share and rant for a bit, there 'may' be 3 things.


Make group and posts:

We are around 30,000 members now built over 5 years, I have daily auto posts, student posts, and posts I do when something relevant comes up.

Auto posts are posted to all my social media (2 FB pages, FB group, LI profile, LI page, Twitter).

I use the same posts but they are staggered, so no 2 platforms has the same posted the same week, normally 2-3 weeks in between a single posts is posted on <some> platform. 
Posts are scheduled 2-3 years ahead. 

Auto posts: 

I picked a social media auto poster up on AppSumo, I think $100-200 for lifetime access, just make sure it meets your needs.

We post:
1x practice questions from each certification we teach (currently 4) per week. 
Free study guides (4 different ones, 1 per week). 
Where are you from posts every 3 months
Tip Tuesday with exam/study tips (30 posts cycled)
and 10 others all for engagement. 

I then post 2 Udemy/own website sales per month, with my auto posts and student posts they are less than 5% of the posts. 


I do competitions every 2-4 months where students can win my courses or if they have them all give to others or get a $25 Starbuck's/amazon gift card, anyone can enter, but they have to be in group.


I do welcome messages to all members to the group every Wednesday "Welcome Wednesday", where I do a welcome message with what the group is, how to engage, my course, and a long list of free and paid resources. 


Early on I joined groups in the same topic, just being helpful, answering questions and sharing knowledge. No promotion.
After a few months of being helpful I approached the other group admins asking if I could post my courses with coupons in their groups, they all said yes, since they knew me by now. 
Now years later I actually stopped it, and they are doing it for me, every 2-3 months they post about me and my courses, much better advertising. 


The group now: 
I started the group to support my Udemy students, now it is more bi-directional. 

I still get Udemy students still who want help, support and to talk to others on a similar path, but the majority of students who join are people studying who do not know me or Udemy, and I then often turn them into students in my courses. 

IF you are planning this long term, build a community a tribe now, I spent maybe 75% of my time the first 4 months to lay the foundation for my community. How my community members are my best advertisers. 


I also built an email list from my own course hosting enrollments, my website, my FB group, and a handful of forms, I think around 20k now, they also get similar materials to above but only every 2-4 weeks. I also have email automations, you signup for a certain list you get the automations that is most helpful.


This of course all assumes you have a good course, good visuals, SEO and all that fun.



For me three tips to market Udemy course would be.

1) Give out free coupons to students on a regular basis. This to me is a win-win situation for both the students and the instructor in that the students will engage with your content and leave behind reviews/ratings on the course. The reviews/ratings will help you rank your course in search results. However, giving too many coupons would be futile as students who get the course for free are less likely to watch the video lessons and engage with your content. This is the mistake that I made when I started off. I also believe there must be an option to create custom no of free coupons in Udemy (like 10 , 15 or 50 for that matter) an option that is non-existent in Udemy as of now.

2) Build a strong social media presence and if your social media presence is weak, I would advise you (the new instructors) to participate in Udemy's promotion program on a revenue sharing basis.

3) Make sure that the course has at least 2 hours of content. However, the longer the better.


Here are my tips:

  2. Leverage social media: Social media platforms are great for promoting your courses and engaging with potential students. Use platforms like Twitter, Facebook, and LinkedIn to share content, run ads, and connect with your audience.

  3. Offer incentives: Offer discounts, free access, or other incentives to entice potential students to enroll in your courses. This can help build momentum and create buzz around your courses.
